I think if I have to explain to any younger generations in my family it'll be what Faux Bare has done below.....and I'll just do the top bit......
When we won it (ECWC) European cups were in this order: 1. European Cup 2. Cup Winner’s Cup 3. UEFA Cup
Is that right? Tottenham can stick their UEFA cup wins up their arses.......

Exactly you had to win something to enter the competiton and not come nowhere near being champions to be entered for the "champions" league like nowadays
One of the greatest nights in out history and a superb match as well
I still believe Alan Sealey should have been represented on the statue though for scoring both goals

No it wasn’t
You had to win a competition to qualify for the cup winners cup, the clue is in the name.
The Europa League is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the UEFA Champions League and above the UEFA Europa Conference League after being the third-tier competition from 1971 to 1999 before the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was discontinued.

The Inter Cities Fairs cup as it was known then was the least significant of the three, the ECWC was second to the European cup

Can see the older generations of West Ham fans having fun explaining that trophy to the younger generations........might be easier to tell them its the equivalent European competition Tottenham are currently in........

The Cup Winners Cup was always considered the least significant of the 3 European trophies.

You're right it shouldn't say European champs.
Should say world champions

I think the "European Champions" line is somewhat disingenuous, not knocking the achievement but the Cup Winners Cup was always considered the least significant of the 3 European trophies.
